Our family is growing

Posted on

This is embarrassing. The last time I posted was over a month ago. So lame.

I’m repenting with an announcement that Lucas and I are really excited about.

Our family is growing.

From 2 to 5 members.

Say hello to my early Valentine’s Day presents, Henry, Evelyn & Jefferson! (in that order)Studio168_3

Several factors have contributed to the decision to adopt these new family members.

1. We live in a basement and badly need some life in the apartment

2. Succulents are excellent (super low maintenance) house plants – especially great for busy, black thumbed students

3. I’ve asked Lucas for them for several months

4. We like pretending they are our children : )

Saturday night we went to Home Depot (before our friend Lauren’s birthday dinner) in search for the perfect plants and found more options than we knew what to do with. However, we were so excited about picking out three different “kids” that we forgot to get the necessary ingredients to replant the kids in their pots. I couldn’t wait, so the pots are already painted gold, but the poor plants are just sitting in their plastic cups inside the pots right now. Monday I’ll run to the store and give the kiddos their special soil mixtures. After some research I learned that succulents can’t survive in regular soil but need a combination of 1/3 soil, 1/3 little rocks and 1/3 sand (not the playground sand). Info for the curious.

Look at these kids, spoiled already! Fancy gold pots… fancy soil… We’re in love with them.

The terra-cotta clay pots are far cheaper than I thought they’d be. Plants too. We might be adopting more children soon. Stay tuned.
