Paint Nite

Posted on

Thanks to an enticing email from Groupon I purchased tickets for Lucas and I to attend a Paint Nite about a month ago. I’ve been looking forward to March 10th ever since.

Paint Nites are scheduled on weeknights, at a restaurant or bar and require no preparation for attendees. The event is designed for people to get out on a weeknight, drink, paint (follow an instructor’s lead in replicating an existing painting) and relax. The closest event to us was in Salt Lake at Piper Down so that’s where we went!

When we arrived there were several tables all set up with blank canvases and brushes. It was much more fun than we expected, forgetting about school and just following painting instructions. At first, I felt bad for making Lucas come with me but I think he enjoyed the event more than me! That might be because his painting turned out better than mine… Either way, we loved it! It is a little expensive to buy a regular priced ticket, but if another Groupon deal rolls around we’ll probably take it!

Midway through our painting project the instructor asked if she could take a picture of us so I asked her to take one with my camera too. After, she said, “That drink looks delicious. Is it a margarita?” I told her it was basically just cranberry juice and she frowned and said, “weak.” I almost told her I was pregnant as an excuse for my juice but instead decided not to. I’m sure it was a little odd for us to be at a drinking party of sorts and not be drinking, but I don’t need to defend my love for juice or my decision not to drink.

This is Lucas’ finished product. The picture we were recreating had large flowers on it but we didn’t like them so we created more simple scenes. His is better than mine. I guess this just proves I’m too uptight for my own good. Maybe if I had a drink my painting would have turned out better. I’m working on easing up.

Thanks for a great date night Lucas!
