Lower Clackamas River Float

Posted on

When people hear “river float” they likely picture people floating down a mild river on individual inner tubes. I bet there were tons of people doing this on Memorial Weekend, but since all the rivers here in Oregon are SUPER cold, we floated down on a raft and basically didn’t get wet at all. My idea of the perfect river float : )

By this time last year we had already spent several days on various rivers, but since I’m pregnant this was our first day on the river for the year. Luckily some friends with a small child asked if we could find a section of river mild enough for a 3 year old (and me) and we did it.

Short, mild section of the Lower Clackamas River: Start at Milo McIver State Park and end at Barton Park

Lucas may have been guiding, but Rhys was the captain of the boat.

I’m so happy we went! The weather was supposed to be sunny so we anticipated large groups of people on or near the water but it turned out to be overcast and a little cold all day so we had the river to ourselves (plus a few fishermen).

When we first moved to Portland, we just happened to move into the apartment below the Hanks family (at the time it was 2 people, now 3!). We were so lucky to have them as neighbors. Hopefully someday we’ll be neighbors again!

Dry pants under the belly and life jacket on top.

Thanks for such a fun day (+ lunch at Five Guys)!
